3 years since Virgin

This week I passed my 3 year anniversary of leaving Virgin. 3 years of having no employer, no salary, no title, no expense account, no corporate travel. And subsequently having very few holidays, new clothes, new furniture, or nice beauty treatments! Has it been worth it?

It might seem like I’m living the dream but it has been a rollercoaster ride. I’ve had a pretty stressful week with various staff issues, but as I was dealing with all that, I was reminded of some of the stresses of corporate life and relieved I don’t face those. E.g. turning on emails in the morning to find a barrage of arguments amongst the board directors, all trying to get one up on each other, with oneself as the target. Or all the companies screaming because the website wasn’t working effectively and none of the tech people being able to tell you why.

So, all in all, I would stand by the decision to ctrl-alt-delete my career. I’ve launched my own brand, which is what I wanted to do, and Redemption has had a brilliant reception from the public and the media. By the end of the year we’ll know if it has got the power to make me financially successful again. In the meantime, I’ll dust off last year’s summer wardrobe, get the bus to work and start waitressing. Tootle pip!
